Everything was prepared to
the minute detail. She had spent a lot of time planning
her Christmas party
and thinking of ways to make it memorable and enjoyable.
Everything went as planned. Her guests enjoyed her party
as much as she enjoyed the thought
that her Christmas party was a success.
After she walked her guests to the door and bid them
goodbye, she immediately started clearing up the mess in
her kitchen and living room—the mess that reminded her
of how enjoyable her party was. As she switched off the
sound of Christmas songs and silence crept in, she was
suddenly stunned because she heard a little voice speak
to her from within.
The little voice spoke: "Wow, the party was great!! I
thought it was supposed to be a birthday party—the
birthday party of Jesus… was it not? How come the
Christmas songs that filled your house with lively music
didn't mention the name of the birthday celebrant? Why
didn't you even introduce Him to your guests? …The
bubbly discussions and chats during the party didn't
even include any topic related to His birth—or any topic
about Him. You sent countless invitations, and many
guests came and filled your home with their cheerful
presence. Did you invite Jesus too? Ah, maybe you did.
He was there at the party, but you ignored Him. You were
too busy to acknowledge His presence."
Does this sound like a description of Christmas at your
house? It is so easy to get wrapped up in all the
activities that are going on at this time of the year
and completely forget the reason that we are
celebrating. We get busy and completely ignore Jesus.
Matthew 1:23 says, “The virgin will be with child and
will give birth to a son, and they will call him
Emmanuel—which means, God with us.” Make Jesus known in
everything you do during this season. Merry Christmas!
Love, Fred
